| The Cobras started their practice game schedule on Tuesday against State 3 side Kingston as the seniors played very well in a 1-2 loss while the Reserves won 2-1. This week the side is playing Noble Park on Saturday. The senior team started slow in the first half against a star studded Kingston and found themselves behind 0-2 at the break and with key player Onur Tufan injuring his knee at the 10 minute mark. The second half was a complete reversal of form as the Cobras played brilliant football and were rewarded with a goal by Andrew Iliopoulos from a set piece. From memory it could be the first goal he scored with his head! In the end the score was 1-2 but there were plenty of positives to take away from the first hit out in 2010. The Reserves played a well balanced match for its entirety with all players working at a frenetic pace while defending and attacking in numbers. The team's persistence paid off when John from Clifton Hill scored his first goal for the club after a brilliant pass by the old master himself, Greg Thomaidis making it 1-0. Kingston were dangerous on the break and their right winger displayed brillliant control to a long ball and with basically one swing cracked the ball past a hapless Declan Frey making it 1-1 at the break. The second half started with Kingston basically playing with a new quicker team but it was the Cobras who stepped up and matched their opponents and Peter Antonoulis grabbed his opportunity to bend one over the wall and scored a brilliant goal from a free kick. The final score was 2-1 to the Cobras. This Saturday the side is travelling to Norman Luth Reserve, Heritage Drive Springvale Map 79 H10 to play against Noble Park. Reserves commence at 1pm while the senior game is on at 3pm. |
