| Caulfield Cobras have improved their standing in Provisional 2 as they posted their second win in a row with a 3-2 victory over Whitehorse Utd after a Peter Alissaphos winner. The Reserves match was stopped after a horrible injury to a Whitehorse player while the Thirds won again by beating Monash Uni 4-1. The Masters lost 0-4 to Middle Park. The win was overshadowed by the loss of a couple of grandparents on the eve of the match and just before kick off and the terrible injury to a Whitehorse Reserves player. Our condolences to the Steve Tsiantoulas family who lost their beloved grandfather and to the John Tselekidis family as Tina Tselekidis lost her grandmother. We also wish all the best to the Whitehorse player who broke his leg during the Reserves match The senior game was an opportunity for the Cobras to leapfrog Whitehorse and continue the good form of late. Once again with Whitehorse's first foray into their forward line the Cobras fell behind but with the final kick in the first half Onur Tufan latched onto an Alissaphos flick and scored the equaliser. In the second half the Cobras found themselves behind once again as clever play by their opponents found an unmarked forward and slotted the goal to go up 2-1. A double substitution by Fred Demetriou sparked the side back into life as John Tselekidis and Denis Khassapov who was making his senior debut ran at their opponents as they started to play deep in their half. With 10 minutes remaining Peter Alissaphos scored a cracker goal and then with two minutes remaining Khassapov won a header which flicked onto Alissaphos' path and he beat a couple of players and scored the winner to the raptures of an ecstatic Cobras crowd. The win makes it two on the trot for new coach Demetriou and the Cobras move off the bottom of the table and into 9th spot. On Saturday the side is facing Bayside Argonauts at Victory Park in what should be a mouth watering encounter between two entertaining sides. The Reserves match was abandoned at half time as the side was leading 2-0 after two great ball busting runs by Denis Khassapov enabling him to slot away both goals and continue his great form. A Whitehorse player was shielding the ball from Tim Akhounov and his foot somehow got stuck in the grass and unfortunately broke his tibia in two spots and dislocated his ankle. The Thirds have continued their excellent form and beat Monash Uni 4-1 and jump to 3rd spot. In Round 1 Monash walloped the Cobras 7-2 but this time the side played with a mixture of experience and youth and won comfortably. Scorers were Dedovic, Rigby, Mamalis and Hopton. There is no game scheduled for this Sunday due to school holidays |
